Religious reasons
Many of the early settlers were Puritans or other religious dissenters who sought to escape religious persecution in England. They believed that the Church of England was corrupt and that they should be able to worship God freely according to their own beliefs.
Political reasons
Some settlers came to America to escape the political oppression of the English monarchy. They believed that they could establish a more just and democratic society in the New World.
Economic reasons
Many settlers came to America to seek economic opportunity. They were lured by the promise of cheap land, plentiful resources, and the opportunity to start their own businesses.
Other reasons
In addition to these main reasons, there were a number of other factors that contributed to the English migration to America. These included:
