Isambard Kingdom Brunel was a highly distinguished English engineer credited with the construction of over one hundred bridges and tunnels; more than forty railways; numerous steamships, including SS Great Britain and SS Great Western; and many important public buildings throughout Britain. Today, many engineers regard his work as revolutionary with regard to the development of civil engineering methods, and most people consider him the preeminent British engineer of the 19th century.
