How many artists are there in the UK?

According to a recent report by the Arts Council England, there are over 1.3 million artists working in the UK. This figure includes everyone from visual artists and musicians to actors and dancers. The majority of artists (70%) are self-employed, and many work part-time or in addition to other paid employment.
