Myanmar was known as Burma until 1989 when it was changed by the ruling military junta.
Myanmar has three main seasons. Hot season lasts from March to May. Rainy season lasts from June to October. Cold season continues from November to February.
Burma was occupied by the Japanese from 1942 until the British freed the country in 1945. The country gained its independence from Britain in 1948.

Myanmar ethnic make up includes over 100 ethnic groups. Many of these ethnic groups speak their own languages in addition to the national language of Myanmar.
