What happened in Niagara falls NY the 1970?

On May 9, 1970, there was a freak thunderstorm at Niagara Falls NY. While tourists gathered near Cave of the Winds under Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist boat was en route back from a ride, suddenly lightning hit several parts of the site. Two visitors and another two guides, were killed and hundreds suffered from electrical shock including the boat passengers that became grounded. An extensive fire and power outages disrupted business all across downtown Niagara Falls that needed to rely on generators for the remainder of the day.
