What is the importance of statue liberty to France?

The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by the people of France; it is not a symbol of France nor does it have any importance to France as a country. As of today, the Statue of Liberty remains under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service of the US Department of the Interior.
