Denali: The Highest Peak in the United States and North America

The highest point in the United States is Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, located in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska. Rising to 20,310 feet (6,190 meters) above sea level, Denali is not only the tallest mountain in the U.S. but also the highest summit in North America. Its immense vertical relief — over 18,000 feet from base to peak — makes it one of the most dramatic mountains on Earth. The name "Denali," meaning "The High One" in the Koyukon Athabaskan language, was officially restored in 2015. The mountain presents extreme weather and climbing challenges, attracting mountaineers worldwide, while the surrounding park protects vast wilderness and wildlife.
