Michigan's Four Bordering States: Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota

Michigan, the Great Lakes State, shares land borders with four U.S. states:

1. Ohio – to the south (land and Lake Erie maritime boundary)
2. Indiana – to the southwest (short land border)
3. Wisconsin – to the west and northwest (land and Lake Michigan/Superior boundaries)
4. Minnesota – to the northwest (Lake Superior water boundary only; no land border)

Unique Geography: Michigan consists of two peninsulas (Upper and Lower) separated by the Straits of Mackinac. It borders four of the five Great Lakes (Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie) and has the longest freshwater coastline in the U.S. (~3,288 mi).

International border: Canada (Ontario) to the north and east across Lakes Superior, Huron, Erie, and the St. Clair/Detroit River system.
