Pennsylvania's State Song: Official vs. Unofficial

Pennsylvania has no official state song legislated by the General Assembly.

De Facto Anthem

"Pennsylvania Polka" by Al Sacco and Frankie Yankovic (1942) is widely considered the unofficial state song. It's played at official events, sports games, and taught in schools.

Other Contenders

  • "Pennsylvania" (Eddie Khoury & Ronnie Bonner) – designated "official state song" by a 1990 resolution, but never codified into law.
  • "Hail, Pennsylvania" – University of Pennsylvania alma mater, often confused.

Efforts to adopt an official song have stalled; "Pennsylvania Polka" remains the popular choice.
