Campgrounds Near Orlando, Fla

Central Florida offers many camping opportunities away from the busyness of the Orlando attractions. Camp in quiet and natural Floridian settings while still being in easy driving distance to Orlando. Since shady campsites are hard to find, bring a tarp or canopy to pitch for shade. Besides privately owned and operated campgrounds, investigate Florida State Parks and similar outlets.
  1. Lake Louisa State Park, Clermont

    • Bird and wildlife watching are popular Central Florida camping pastimes.

      Six lakes and rolling hills mark Lake Louisa State Park. Fish, hike, bike, bird watch and camp in the 4,500 acre park. The park has 15 miles of equestrian trails. Twenty miles of trails are set aside for hikers and backpackers. You can primitive camp, horse camp, group camp or camp with hook-ups. Showers and flush toilets are available at the improved campgrounds, composting toilets are located in the equestrian campground. Most sites have a picnic table, fire ring, water hook-up and a grill. The parks has 20 cabins for rent.

    Wekiwa Springs State Park, Apopka

    • Snorkel in the cool, crystal clear water of Wekiwa Springs.

      Located one hour from Orlando, Wekiwa Springs has car camping, primitive, group and equestrian sites. Set along the Wekiva River, the park's terrain is hilly and covered in longleaf pines. Swim in the cool springs. Hike or bike the park's trails through wilderness areas. Campgrounds offer wooded sites with a fire ring, picnic table and grill. Bathhouses and water are centrally located. Recreational vehicles are limited to 50 feet.Canoe the river with a rented canoe or kayak. Concessionaires can advise on suggested routes and length of time required. Snorkeling is permitted in the clear Wekiwa Springs water.

    Rock Springs Run State Reserve, Sorrento

    • Rent a canoe to enjoy the solitude of canoe camping at Rock Springs.

      Take refuge in the natural beauty of Rock Springs Run north of Orlando. The park sits along the Rock Springs Run and Wekiva River amid pine flatwoods, sand pine scrub and swamps. Canoe to river accessible primitive campsites. Rent a canoe at nearby Wekiwa Springs State Park. Or camp with your horse at the equestrian campground. Rock Springs has 15 miles of multi-use trails for bikes, hikers and horses. Cabins rentals are available in the park. There is no swimming in the reserve.

    Cape Canaveral National Seashore, Titusville

    • Occasionally the Cape Canaveral National Seashore will be closed due to Kennedy Space Center launches.

      Only one hour east of Orlando, you can camp on the beach. Beachfront camping is a grand Florida tradition. Camp on Kondike Beach, a section of the Cape Canaveral National Seashore. Hike in for this primitive backcountry camping experience. Get a backcountry permit at the park gate. Be prepared to pack in your own water and pack out all your trash. Some backcountry camping is allowed on nearby islands. This area will be closed during Kennedy Space Center launches.
