Nevada State Campgrounds Near Battle Mountain

Choosing the right campground can be the difference between an average camping experience and an unforgettable camping experience. Camping at a state campground near Battle Mountain in Nevada can get quite challenging because there are plenty from which to choose and they all have their own character. The Battle Mountain Tourism website states that the area's recreational activities are a well-kept secret and its rugged, natural surroundings make it an ideal camping destination for campers, hikers, bikers and backpackers.
  1. Rye Patch State Recreation Area

    • Rye Patch State Recreation Area is located west of Battle Mountain, Nevada. Campers can set up at 22 campsites below Rye Patch Reservoir and 25 campsites west of the reservoir. These sites all have hot showers and restrooms with flush toilets. Some primitive campsites are also located along the reservoir, which are accessible by boat. Group campers have three group campsites from which to choose. None of the campsites have hookups, but they have a dump station and potable water. The campgrounds are open all year and campers are not required to make reservations since the campsites operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Activities include picnicking, fishing (popular catches are white bass, crappie, black bass and wipers), boating and water skiing on the 11,000-acre Rye Patch Reservoir.

    Wild Horse State Recreation Area

    • This recreation area is situated northeast of Battle Mountain and allows picnicking, boating, hunting and fishing. Campers can camp any time of the year in 33 campsites that each come with a table, fire pit and camp pad. Other amenities include showers, a dump station (during the summer), water faucets and a boat ramp. Fishing enthusiasts can try catching rainbow trout or yellow perch from the 2,830-acre reservoir. The campground is most popular during the warm summer months. Winter camping allows for snowmobiling and skiing in the campground's treeless areas. Campers can stay on the campground for a maximum of 14 days in a 30-day period.

    South Fork State Recreation Area

    • East of Battle Mountain, you'll find South Fork State Recreation Area. North of the area are 25 campsites with a dump station, grills, tables, showers and flush toilets. The campground is open to accommodate campers from early May through November 15. The park itself is open all year. Campers can engage in activities such as boating on the 1,650-acre South Fork Reservoir, wildlife watching, fishing for trout and bass, hunting and winter sports.
