Located three miles south of downtown Ely, the Ely KOA offers all the amenities of the KOA campground chain. Tent campers and RVers are equally welcome with sites tailored to their needs. RV hookups include 50-amp electrical service and free WiFi, with cable TV, propane and firewood available for an extra charge. Among the campground activities are outdoor movies, scavenger hunts and ice cream socials. There's even an on-site horse corral.
This Nevada state park, in the Schell Creek Range about 15 miles southeast of Ely, has campgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails and a boat launch. Summer activities include boating and trout fishing, while winter visitors enjoy ice fishing, skating and cross-country skiing. The park has two campgrounds and all sites have a fire pit with grill, a picnic table and a parking area. No RV hookups are available, but both campgrounds offer hot showers and flush toilets. Lake View Campground is closest to the lake and is open all year, while Elk Flat Campground is open only from May to about mid-October.
Northeast of Ely, the Schell Creek Range offers several camping options in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Among them is the Timber Creek Campground, approximately 16 miles from Ely and situated in a forest of spruce, fir and aspen at an elevation of 8,500 feet. This campground is small, with just six single sites and six group sites. It's open from June through October, and reservations are accepted. Activities in this area include bird-watching, hiking and horseback riding, and there is a playground with a sandbox in the campground area. There is drinkable water available, as well as vault toilets. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 20 feet long, but there are no hookups.
