RV Campgrounds Near Chicago

The third-largest city in the United States, Chicago offers many attractions for tourists, such as Navy Pier, the Chicago Institute of Art and the Adler Planetarium. A trip to the Chicago area does not mean having to stay in a hotel. Lovers of the outdoors can find a small number of recreational vehicle (RV) campgrounds within an hour of the city, which offer amenities and recreational activities that can make any Chicago vacation comfortable and memorable.
  1. Oasis RV Park at Empress Casino Hotel

    • The Oasis RV Resort is at the Empress Casino and Hotel in Joliet, Illinois, about 47 miles from Chicago (approximately 49 minutes by automobile). The campground consists of 80 paved campsites with full patios, 17 of which are pull-throughs that measure around 70 feet in length. The remaining back-ins average 50 feet in length, and all of the spaces are about 45 feet wide. Water and electric hookups are available at each campsite. Although the campground has no sewage connections, a waste dump is on the property for campers' convenience. On-site amenities include restrooms, showers, public telephones and a laundry facility. The casino on the property covers 50,000 square feet and has more than 1,100 slot and video poker machines. Two restaurants are located at the resort. Oasis RV Resort at the Empress Casino and Hotel operates year-round, but use of on-site facilities is limited during the winter months.

    Emerald Trails Campground

    • Emerald Trails Campground is in Crete, Illinois, approximately 37 miles from Chicago (around 50 minutes by automobile). The campground consists of 30 sites for tent-camping and 110 for recreational vehicles. The RV sites are long enough to accommodate vehicles up to 45 feet in length. Seventy-five RV spaces have full electric, water and sewage hookups, and the remaining 35 offer only water and electricity. The campground offers restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, a waste dump station and a camp store that sells basic groceries, firewood and RV supplies. The campground is located along Jewel Lake for fishing and swimming, and the park has paddleboats for campers to use. Hiking, biking and equestrian trails are located on the property as well as a playground, basketball court and a recreation center with billiards tables. Emerald Trails Campground operates year-round.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort

    • Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort is in Portage, Indiana, around 39 miles from Chicago (about 56 minutes by automobile). The campground has 926 recreational vehicle campsites, around 89 of which are available for short-term, vacation rentals rather than seasonal or long-term use. The sites measure around 35 feet by 60 feet in size and all have full electric, water and sewage hookups. Each campsite also has its own fire-ring and picnic table. Wireless Internet is accessible throughout the campground for an additional fee. The campground has restrooms, showers, a waste dump and laundry facilities. An on-site store sells groceries, propane, RV supplies and propane, and a restaurant is on the property. Lake Minnehaha is located on the property for freshwater fishing. The resort has a dock and rents boats for campers. Other recreational activities and facilities include tennis and basketball courts, four swimming pools, volleyball court, a miniature golf course and a playground. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort operates from mid-May through September.
