Campgrounds Near Lansing, Michigan

Lansing, Michigan, was a sleepy little community with approximately 20 residents when it was chosen as the state's new capital city in 1847. Today, Lansing is home to a number of attractions, including the circa-1878 Capitol Building, the Michigan Historical Museum, Potter Park Zoo and the triple-deck Michigan Princess riverboat, which provides cruises along the Grand River. Campers planning a visit to Lansing will find one campground in the city and several others within a 30-mile drive.
  1. Lansing Cottonwood Campground

    • Lansing Cottonwood Campground, the only campground within Lansing's city limits, has 145 campsites, 100 with electric and water hookups. Of those, 11 also provide a sewer. The seasonal campground, open from May to November, also has 35 primitive sites with no hookups that are available to tent campers. Amenities include restrooms with hot showers, RV dump station, laundry facilities, camp store, recreation room, outdoor pool, playground, horseshoe pits, sports fields and a volleyball court. Fishing is allowed in Cottonwood's two stocked ponds, and paddle boats and kayaks can be rented. Monthly, weekly and daily rates are available.

    Sleepy Hollow State Park

    • Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, 26 miles northeast of Lansing, has a year-round campground with 181 campsites. Each campsite has electric hookup, and other campground amenities include restrooms, running water and an RV dump station. The 2,600-acre park, set along the banks of 410-acre Lake Ovid and the Little Maple River, also includes a swimming beach, boat ramp, two fishing piers, picnic areas and disc golf. Campers have access to hiking, mountain bike and equestrian trails. Kayaks, paddle boats, pontoon boats and rowboats are available for rent, and anglers can drop their lines in Lake Ovid for a variety of fish species such as bass, bluegill, bullhead, crappie, catfish, muskie, perch and sunfish.

    Lakeside Resort

    • Lakeside Resort Campground in Ionia, not quite 30 miles northwest of Lansing, is home to more than 120 campsites for tents, trailers or RVs. Each campsite includes electric and water hookups, a fire ring and picnic table. Other amenities include modern restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, an RV dump station, propane fill tank, recreation pavilion, playground area and nature trails. Lakeside Resort's 10-acre lake is stocked with fish, and canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and tubes are available to rent. The seasonal campground also has nightly campfires and other scheduled activities during summer months.

    Other Nearby Campgrounds

    • You can also choose from three other campgrounds, each approximately 30 miles from Lansing. Taylor's Beach Campground in Howell, set on the shoreline of spring-fed Cook Lake east of Lansing, has almost 200 RV sites with electric and water hookups, plus additional tent-only sites. Taylor's Beach also has nature trails, a swimming beach, children's frog and turtle pond, paddle boat and rowboat rentals, fishing piers and an arcade room. Pleasant Lake County Park and Campground, southeast of Lansing, has 60 campsites with water and electric hookups, an RV dump station, swimming area, fishing, playground and picnic areas. Alice Springs RV Park & Resort in Ionia has more than 120 RV sites, many with full hookups, along with a convenience store and recreational amenities that include a miniature golf course, fishing lake and an outdoor swimming pool with children's pool and hot tub.
