Campgrounds in SE Michigan

Southeast Michigan is often defined by its industries, including its car industry. The region, which includes cities such as Detroit, Ann Arbor, Jackson and Adrian, also features art, history and science museums, including automobile, multicultural art, African American, airplane and zoological museums. The region also serves as an ideal area for going wine tasting because of its wineries and vineyards. Within Southeast Michigan, outdoor enthusiasts can find state parks and recreation areas, where they can go hiking, fishing, boating, skiing, hunting or biking. Many Southeast Michigan campgrounds sit near the region’s indoor and outdoor attractions.

    • The Woodall’s campground rating system ranked the Harbortown RV Resort as one of the top campgrounds in Michigan in 2010. The campground is located in Monroe, directly on Lake Erie. On the lake, people can go fishing, boating, swimming, jet skiing and water skiing. Guests can also go fishing on a creek that runs through the campground. The camping resort sits near the Old Mill Museum, Greenfield Village, the Monroe Multi-Sports Complex, Michigan International Speedway and River Raisin National Battlefield Park. The campground has 250 campsites, where people can camp in their recreational vehicles (RVs) or tents. Many of the sites come with water, electrical, sewer and cable TV connections. The campground also offers wireless Internet access at its sites. The camping resort features kid-friendly amenities, such as a go-cart track, a video arcade, a miniature golf course, batting cages and an outdoor swimming pool. The facility also has hiking trails, a convenience store with RV supplies and groceries, a pavilion area with picnic tables and a nearby boat ramp.

    Lake Chemung Outdoor Resort

    • The Woodall’s campground rating system also rated the Lake Chemung Outdoor Resort as one of the top campgrounds in Michigan in 2010. The campground sits in Howell, close to the Mount Brighton Ski Resort, Livingston Centre Historical Village, Hell Creek Ranch, Kensington Metropark, Tanger Outlet Center and The Opera House. The campground has 340 RV campsites, all of which have sewer, water and electrical hookups. The campground also offers wireless Internet access to campers. At the camping facility, guests can go swimming, fishing and boating on a private beach. The campground also has a fishing pond for children. Other amenities at the camping resort include tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, bocce ball and basketball courts; a miniature golf course; a pavilion for group outings; an outdoor swimming pool; saunas; horseshoe pits; a children’s playground; a neighboring golf course; a mailroom and a store with RV supplies and groceries. The campground offers planned activities, such as Bingo nights, card games, parties, holiday parades, fishing competitions and ice cream socials.

    Waterloo Recreation Area-Portage Lake

    • The Portage Lake campground at Waterloo Recreation Area sits in Chelsea, close to the Arctic Coliseum, Cavanaugh Lake Park, the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center, the Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail and the Dexter Area Historical Museum. The recreation area features Big Portage Lake, where campground guests can go swimming, boating and fishing. The facility also has nature trails, where people can go biking, horseback riding or hiking. Other amenities at the recreation area include a boat-rental service, a boat launch area, a children’s playground, a pavilion area with picnic tables and a concession stand. The campground has 136 sites for RV and tent camping, all of which have electrical connections. The sites also have picnic tables. The campground rents out one-bedroom cabins, which come with fire pits, picnic tables and grills.
