Campgrounds in Seney, Michigan

Seney is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is near the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, Newberry State Forest Area and Hiawatha National Forest. Seney is surrounded by lakes, rivers and streams. Area wildlife includes moose, wolves, bobcats, black bears, otters and various species of birds.
  1. Fox River State Forest Campground

    • Fox River State Forest Campground is a rustic camp site located in Seney, Michigan. It has seven sites for tents and small trailers. Water is provided via a hand pump, and there are vault toilets. The campground is located directly on the Fox River and offers canoeing, fishing and boating. The closest canoe rental is 12 miles away, so campers should come prepared. Other activities include biking, hiking the 27.5 miles of nature trails and watching the wildlife. Campsites rent for $15 per day as of February 2011, and reservations are not accepted.

    East Branch of Fox River State Forest Campground

    • The East Branch of Fox River State Forest Campground offers 19 rustic sites for tent and small trailer use. Water is available from well hand pumps, and campers have use of vault toilets. The campground has a boat launch and off-road/ATV trails, and canoeing and fishing are among the recreational activities. The river is full of brook trout, and nearby lakes and rivers are stocked with walleye, pike, bass and perch. As of February 2011, campsites are $15 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Seney Township Campground

    • The Seney Township Campground has 25 campsites. Fifteen of the sites are modern, with electricity and water; the other 10 are rustic tent sites. All campers have use of new bathrooms and well water. The campground is located at the trail head of the Fox River Pathway, a 27-mile nature trail that was once hiked by Ernest Hemingway. Rates vary by size and season.

    Big Cedar Campground

    • Big Cedar Campground has 50 sites for tents, trailers and RVs. Tent sites come with water and electricity, while RV sites include sewer hook-ups. The campground has horseshoe, volleyball, badminton and basketball courts. There is also a pavilion area with a grill and a playground for the children. Big Cedar also offers canoe and kayak trips up the Fox and Upper Manistique Rivers. The campground is open from May 1 through October 15. Reservations are recommended.
