Campgrounds in Fort Custer, Michigan

The area around Fort Custer in Michigan is dotted with campgrounds and parks offering the opportunity for both rustic, cabin and RV camping. Miles of trails and several waterways, including the Kalamazoo River, offer the opportunity for hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, fishing and hunting. There are several campgrounds that can accommodate campers all year round.
  1. Fort Custer Recreation Area

    • The Fort Custer Recreation Area is located between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. There are two campgrounds available that can accommodate tent campers as well as those traveling with an RV. There are also rustic furnished cabins available.

      The park features three lakes in addition to the Kalamazoo River and a large trail system. Hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders are all welcome to use the trails here. During winter, cross-country skiers, sledders and snowmobilers make use of the trail system here.

      Hunting and fishing are allowed here with a valid state permit.

    Shady Bend Campground

    • Located on the banks of the Kalamazoo River, this campsite has more than 3,000 feet of waterfront property. Both tent camping and RV sites are available. Sites offer grassy areas, cement patios, fire pits, picnic tables, water and 20/30 AMP electric hook-ups.

      Amenities of the campground include a dump station, a camp store, a bait shop and firewood. Canoe trips, tubing and fishing trips can be arranged by Shady Bend as well. Pets are welcome but must remain on a leash and owners are expected to clean up after them.

    Battle Creek Michigan Campground

    • This 125-acre, family-owned park is geared toward families and offers a number of activities for both children and adults. Accommodations include rustic tent camping, full hook-up RV pads and modern cabins with air conditioning.

      The park grounds include a fishing pond and a swimming pond with paddle boats and canoes, a volleyball court, a tennis court, nature trails, bocce ball, a playground for kids and a disc golf course. Indoor amenities include an indoor heated pool, a hot tub and sauna, dart boards, board games, an air hockey table, ping pong, a reading library, pool tables and two TV lounges.

      Pets are not allowed for daily campers, but long-term campers may bring pets as long as they are leashed and looked after.
