Mud Lake State Forest Campground is located 8 miles northeast of Mount Pleasant in Clare County. The campground is run by Michigan's Department of Natural Resources. The campground does not offer RV accommodations. The park features access to many of the area's natural beauties. For those looking to fish, Mud Lake is a quality fishing spot that offers bass and bluegill. There is also a brisk 8 1/2-mile hiking trail, which has flat to slightly rolling terrain. The forest that surrounds the campground is a great place to relax and watch the wildlife. There are also bike and off-road vehicle trails.

Tubbs Lake Campground features 33 campsites. It is located 13 miles northwest of Mt. Pleasant. The site does not offer accommodations for RVs. The campground has rustic campsites available, which feature vault toilets and hand pump water. The campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations will not be accepted. Tubbs Lake Campground is surrounded by a myriad of lakes, and all offer great fishing, boating and relaxation. Bass, bluegill, northern pike, yellow perch, warmouth, pumpkinseed, black crappie, bullhead and dogfish populate the lakes around the campground. There is also a boat launch and an abundant amount of wildlife to be observed.

Herrick Recreation Area is located 12 miles northeast of Mt. Pleasant and offers 73 campsites. The campground has 20- and 30-amp electrical hookups, as well as water hookups. Herrick Recreation Area can also accommodate RVs and features a dump station. There are bathhouses located on the premises, and they are handicap accessible. The park offers many activities such as swimming, fishing and boating. There is a boat launch ramp, but it can only be used by boats that have electric motors. The campground also features volleyball and horseshoe areas.
