Campgrounds Near Waxahachie, Texas

Part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex region, the city of Waxahachie owns a rich and colorful history. Its wealth of ornate Victorian structures -- legacy of the town’s former glory as a prosperous center of the cotton trade -- has earned Waxahachie the title of Gingerbread Capital of Texas. The city's historic downtown courthouse’s nine-story clock tower has caught the fancy of Hollywood filmmakers who have shot dozens of motion pictures here. If you’re planning a camping trip to the area, you can choose from five campgrounds within 20 miles of Waxahachie.
  1. Dallas Hi Ho RV Park

    • Open to both RVs and tents, Dallas Hi Ho RV Park in Glenn Heights is roughly midway between Waxahachie, 15 miles to the south, and downtown Dallas to the north. It features more than 130 sites, ranging from primitive tent sites to RV sites with full hookups. It also offers a rental cabin for those with no camping gear. Some of the metro area’s biggest attractions, including Six Flags Over Texas, the Cotton Bowl, Dallas Zoo and Dallas Aquarium, are located within easy driving distance of the campground. Facilities for campers include a camp store with RV supplies, picnic tables, barbecue grills, a playground, showers, restrooms, propane service and a dump station.

    High View Park

    • High View Park, located about 17 miles southeast of Waxahachie, sits along the western shores of Bardwell Lake, which is a popular destination for anglers. The park features a marina, swimming area, four-lane boat ramp and a courtesy dock. Its campground contains more than 50 paved campsites, most with electricity. Picnic tables, barbecue grills, flush toilets, showers, drinking water supplies and a dump station are included among the park’s facilities.

    Waxahachie Creek Park

    • Waxahachie Creek Park, 19 miles southeast of Waxahachie, is one of several recreation areas along the shores of Bardwell Lake, a 3,570-acre reservoir created from a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam on Waxahachie Creek. In addition to its campground, the park features day-use recreational facilities, including fishing piers, a marina and 13 miles of multipurpose trails. The park’s campground offers more than 60 campsites, all but a handful with water and electric hookups. Also available is a pavilion with a capacity of 200 people that can be reserved for group functions. Campers have access to flush and pit toilets, showers, drinking water, picnic tables, barbecue grills and a dump station.

    Texan RV Ranch

    • Catering primarily to RVs, Texan RV Ranch sits in Mansfield, 20 miles northwest of Waxahachie. It offers more than 130 RV sites, including many with full hookups. If you don’t have an RV, you can rent a cabin or cottage. Nearby attractions include Hawaiian Falls Waterpark and Joe Pool Lake. If you’d prefer to take it easy and stick close to home base, you can cool off in the park’s outdoor swimming pool or soak up the sun on its sundeck. Other amenities include a clubhouse with a full kitchen and exercise facilities, picnic area with covered pavilion, a camp store, a centrally located bathhouse with restrooms and showers, coin laundry, free Wi-Fi and propane service.

    Mott Park

    • Mott Park sits along the western shores of Bardwell Lake, 20 miles southeast of Waxahachie. Recreational activities in the park include boating, fishing, hunting and swimming. Mott Park’s campground features roughly 40 campsites, most with electricity and water, and seven primitive sites are available primarily for tent camping. Campground’s facilities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, barbecue grills, a boat ramp and dump station.
