Campgrounds Near Concan, Texas

The city of Concan is located in Uvalde County in southern Texas on the banks of the Frio River. The name "Concan" may be derived from the Mexican gambling game, "coon can," but this is more legend than fact. Concan, Texas is known for its abundant wildlife including deer, turkey and bats and geologic wonders like tall canyons filled with winding rivers. There are camping opportunities for every type of camper in and around this beautiful town.
  1. Garner State Park

    • Located seven miles north of Concan, Garner State Park sprawls over 1,419 acres of undeveloped geologic grandeur. The crystal clear Frio River comprises 10 acres, offering guests pristine swimming water (no lifeguard on duty) during the sweltering days under the Texas sun. Unless you have a Texas State Park Pass, entrance fees are four dollars per person for overnight guests over age 12. There are 345 campsites with water hook-ups scattered throughout the park, 213 of which have electricity. Garner State Park also offers 17 cabins, group sites, day-use facilities (for an additional fee) and seasonal facilities including clean bathrooms with hot showers, gift shop, snack bar and laundry facilities. Rentals of paddleboats, kayaks and inner tubes are available during the peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) for use on the Frio River. Garner State Park features paved bike trails, unpaved hiking trails and a lighted golf course.

    Nana's RV Park

    • Nana's RV Park is located right across the Frio River from Garner State Park. Nana's caters to RV campers, offering guests 40 RV sites complete with picnic tables, fire rings and full hook-ups all on the beautiful Frio River. On-site management is located in the park office, which is a restored log cabin that has been standing since the early 1800s. There are large, clean restrooms complete with hot showers, but the main attraction is the scenic trails along the shoreline of the Frio River. Visitors can hike from Nana's RV Park into Garner State Park or enjoy a fire on the banks of the river in one of many additional fire pits scattered along the rivers edge. Nearby attractions include horseback riding, a general store and the second largest bat population in the world.

    Andy's on River Road

    • Andy's campground is located in the Frio Canyon, 1 1/2 miles from the river. Andy's focuses on the family camping experience, and any guests that are disruptive will be asked to leave. There are a variety of camping options available including tents, cabins, suites and RV sites. Andy's features an on-site restaurant, Taqueria La Charreada, which specializes in hot Mexican entrees and a store, where campers can purchase firewood, bait or souvenirs. Seasonal kayak and tube rental is available. Andy's amenities include free wireless Internet, hot showers, clean bathrooms and playgrounds for children.
