Campgrounds in Redwood County, Minnesota

Redwood County is in southwest Minnesota. Its largest town is Redwood Falls. It is best known as the childhood home of author Laura Ingalls Wilder, who lived in Walnut Grove at the southern end of the county. The Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway passes through the county as well. Redwood County also has trails that you can walk, as well as several campgrounds.
  1. Plum Creek Park

    • Plum Creek Park is near the creek that was made famous in the Laura Ingalls Wilder book "On the Banks of Plum Creek." The park has 70 campsites and requires a two-night minimum stay. Sites with electric or water and electric hookups are available. Firewood is available. The park also has hiking paths around Lake Laura and along Plum Creek, a lakeside gazebo, nine-hole Frisbee disc course, playground, shelter house with picnic tables, two bathhouses, softball fields and sand volleyball courts.

    Alexander Ramsey Park

    • Alexander Ramsey Park is 219 acres and the largest municipal park in Minnesota. The campground has 31 sites with 50-amp electrical hookups. Free firewood is available. The campground also has restrooms with showers, city water and a sanitary disposal station. The park is best known for Ramsey Falls and also has four miles of paved hiking trails, a trout stream and a zoo.

    Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Park

    • Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Park is next to the Cottonwood River and has 24 campsites that include water and 50-amp electrical hookups. The park is open May through October. It also has a camper dump site and two shelters with picnic tables, water and electricity. The park also includes restrooms with showers, a playground and a volleyball court.

    Gilfillan Estate Campground

    • Gilfillan Estate Campground has camper hookups and water. The campground also has restrooms and picnic tables in a wooded area. The Gilfillan Estate is a large farm that was built by Charles Duncan Gilfillan more than 100 years ago. The estate was donated to the Redwood County Historical Society and is open June through Labor Day.
