Campgrounds in Washington County, Minnesota

Though Washington County, Minn., cozies up to the suburbs of the Twin Cities, there are still spots where visitors can spy scenic sights and sleep under the stars. The St. Croix and Mississippi rivers converge on the county's southeastern border. Hikers, skiers, bikers, horseback riders and boating enthusiasts have many recreational options throughout the county, which borders Wisconsin and is home to historic Stillwater, Minn., dubbed the "birthplace of Minnesota."
  1. William O'Brien State Park

    • Near Stillwater in the northeastern part of the county, William O'Brien State Park offers recreation and lodging year-round on the St. Croix River. The park holds hundreds of campsites for various needs and preferences. There are four camper cabins for groups of up to five guests and there are also drive-in sites, electricity-equipped sites and handicap-accessible locations. All guests have complimentary use of the modern restrooms, which include showers in summer. RVs shorter than 60 feet are welcome to camp in the park, and there is a seasonal dump site available. Reservations can be made online.

    St. Paul East RV Park

    • On the western border of the county and just 20 minutes away from the Twin Cities, the St. Paul East RV Park has tent sites, sleeper cabins for groups of four to six and spaces where up to 80-foot motor homes can hook up to water, electricity and sewer services. Wireless Internet is free at the park, and pet-sitting and laundry services are available for an added charge. For recreation, the park has a pool, volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.

    St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park

    • Washington County contains parts of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area on its southern border, and the county maintains St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in nearby Hastings. It's one of the few county-maintained parks that allows camping for groups both large and small. There is a large tent site that can accommodate up to 50 campers, but there are also dozens of single sites, some of which have electric and water hookups. All campers can use the flush-toilets and showers on site.
