Campgrounds at Lake Independence in Minnesota

Located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, a 15-minute drive north of Minneapolis, is Lake Independence. This 844-acre lake is a popular destination for those who enjoy water recreational activities, including boating, fishing and swimming. Hiking trails also surround the lake, where you can take in the surrounding wilderness. If you plan on visiting the lake, there are several campgrounds in and around the area to provide you with accommodations.
  1. Minneapolis Northwest KOA

    • This campground is located in Maple Grove, approximately 20 miles from Lake Independence. It sits on 20 acres of wooded land. Accommodations include RV sites, tent sites and cabins and feature 50-amp electrical and telephone service. Wireless Internet access is complimentary and available throughout the park. Enjoy swimming in the pool, playing a round of miniature golf, eating at the snack bar or partaking in the campgrounds planned activities, such as ice cream socials, potluck suppers and arts and crafts.

    Baker Park Reserve

    • This 2,700-acre campground is situated in the town of Maple Plain next to Lake Independence. There are a total of 204 campsites and an array of outdoor recreational activities to enjoy. Activities include cross-country skiing, horseback riding, biking, fishing, boating and hiking trails. The campground is also home to the Baker National Golf Course, which features an 18-hole championship and a nine-hole executive course, as well as a driving range.

    Carver Park Reserve

    • Carver Park Reserve is located in the town of Victoria, about 10 miles away from Lake Independence and offers 57 campsites. The campground offers a truly rustic camping experience, with no electricity or showers. Each site does feature a fire ring and a picnic table. Sites can accommodate up to two tents or one tent and one RV. There is a public beach and playground equipment to enjoy, as well as hiking and biking.
