Central Texas Campgrounds

The state of Texas features numerous campgrounds, many of which are located right in the middle of the state. The centralized location makes the campgrounds the ideal places to stop for the night as traveling across Texas is typically a two day affair. Regardless of how long you stay at these campgrounds, you have plenty of attractions to enjoy and activities in which to take part.
  1. Stillhouse Hollow Lake

    • Stillhouse Hollow Lake welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors a year who come to enjoy boating, swimming and birdwatching around the lake. Dana Peak and Union Grove campgrounds offer utilities including water, toilets, showers and electricity. Recreation at the park includes the Chalk Ridge Falls Park nature trail, the Overlook Park exercise trail as well as boat ramps and more than 4,000 acres open to hunting.

    Richards Park

    • Richards Park is located within the city of Brady, Texas, and offers opportunities for RV parking and primitive parking. The campground at Richards Park sees the most action during the annual World Championship Barbecue Goat Cook-Off during Labor Day weekend. Throughout the rest of the year, campers coming to Richards Park can enjoy fishing, swimming and boating on Brady Creek. The park is also home to a playground and a Frisbee golf course.

    Hords Creek Lake

    • Hords Creek Lake offers visitors the choice of Flatrock Park and Lakeside campgrounds. Restrooms, dump sites, electricity and water services are available for RV and tent campers. Recreation at Hords Creek Lake includes boating and nature trailers. A fishing pier and a fish cleaning station are provided for anglers. Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park

    • Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park offers campsites for visitors arriving either in an RV or with a tent in tow. The campsites offer sewer, water and electrical hookups. Tourists to this central Texas park should be aware that it gets crowded during the summer as a result of its wealth of facilities for recreation. Among those facilities are a baseball field, a par-72 golf course, basketball court, fishing in Live Oak Creek, an Olympic-sized pool and six tennis courts.

    Calaveras Lake Park

    • Campers wanting a place to stay not far from the attractions of San Antonio should consider Calaveras Lake Park.
