Campgrounds in Whistler, BC

Whistler sits at the northwestern edge of Garibaldi Provincial Park, which encompasses Whistler Mountain. As the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Vancouver-area park is famous for winter sports, but it is also a year-round haven for outdoor recreation. It offers an abundance of rugged, snow-capped mountains, alpine meadows, hemlock forests, glacier-fed lakes and wildlife. The park has strict regulations: Pets and fires are prohibited, as is the use of any off-road motorized vehicles. Camping is permitted only in designated areas and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors should follow all protocols about bear safety.

The area has two rustic campgrounds, Elfin Lakes with 14 tent sites and Mamquam Lakes with three tent sites. Amenities include pit toilets and food storage facilities. There are no garbage facilities, and campers are required to pack out any trash.

There are three campgrounds--Garibaldi Lake with 50 tent sites, Taylor Meadows with 40 tent sites and Helm Creek with nine tent sites. Cheakamus Lake

    • Cheakamus is a glacier-fed lake surrounded by evergreen forests and towering mountain peaks. It is two miles on a flat trail from the park's popular Singing Creek area, another park attraction. It is also popular with backpackers heading to or from the Garibaldi Lake and Helm Creek camping areas, which are roughly 10 miles away. The campground requires a 1-1/2 mile hike in and offers 10 tent sites on the lake shoreline. It is rustic, with pit toilets and facilities to hang food. The area is prone to bear activity in the warmer months, and park officials advise campers to stay on the trails and never feed wildlife.
