Campgrounds Near Willmar, Minnesota

Incorporated in 1874, Willmar, Minnesota, is 52 miles southwest of St. Cloud and 80 miles west of Minneapolis. For tourists, Willmar is home to a variety of attractions including the Dorothy Olson Aquatic Center, Eagle Creek Golf Course and KRA Speedway. Outdoor enthusiasts can find a number of campgrounds within 30 minutes of the city.
  1. Kandiyohi County Park #2

    • Operated by the County Parks Department, Kandiyohi County Park #2 is in Lake Lillian, about a 20-minute drive from Willmar. The park features approximately 90 sites for RV parking that measure 30 feet by 50 feet. About one-third of these spots accommodate pull-through parking, meaning drivers do not have to back their RVs into the sites. All sites have electric hookups. Although water and sewage hookups are not offered, the campground does provide showers, restrooms, a laundry facility and a waste dump. Big Kandiyohi Lake is located at the campground and is a popular spot for fishing and swimming. A boating ramp is available. Other amenities include a playground and horseshoe pits. An on-site store sells basic groceries, propane, firewood and bait.

    Monson Lake State Park

    • Operated by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Monson Lake State Park is in Sunburg, about a 30-minute drive from Willmar. The 187-acre park has a 20-site RV campground large enough for vehicles up to 70 feet in length. Showers and flush and vault toilets are available for campers' use. Hikers can stretch their legs on the park's 1.2 miles of trails. The park's Monson Lake is adjacent to the campground and offers fishers walleye, bass and sunfish. The park is also popular for birding, and visitors may catch a glimpse of white pelicans, herons, western grebes, and songbirds during their stay, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

    Sibley State Park

    • Located in New London, Sibley State Park is less than a 25-minute drive from Willmar. The park offers 132 campsites up to 70 feet in length. Fifty-three of the spots feature electric hookups. Restrooms, showers and a waste dump are located on the premises. The park also features sites for tent camping, horse camping or group camping for up to 50 people. In the summer, campers can enjoy the park's 18 miles of hiking trails, 1.8-mile paved bicycle trail and 7 miles of horse-riding paths. In the winter, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing are popular. Canoeing, swimming, fishing and boating are possible on Sibley's three lakes: Lake Andrew, Henschien Lake and Swan Lake.
