Florida State Camping Parks

The State of Florida has 160 official state parks as of 2010, but not all of these parks allow camping. Those that do offer a wide variety of camping experiences including roughing it in rugged woodland, relaxing at campgrounds with modern conveniences, and even overnight equestrian trail rides. All Florida state park camping sites are situated with easy access to other outdoor activities that may include hiking, fishing, canoeing or swimming.
  1. Three Rivers State Park

    • Three Rivers State Park is a northwest Florida park situated along the border with southwest Georgia. The park's centerpiece is the convergence of Flint River and Chattahoochee River in Lake Seminole, where visitors can often be found boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. Overnight visitors can stay at the park's full camping facility with BBQ grills, campfire rings, canoe rentals, picnic shelters, showers, restrooms and a playground. Rental cabins are also available. Cabin rentals, picnic pavilion rentals and nightly campground stays all have associated fees, and there is a small per-vehicle fee for entering the park. Cycling and hiking trails wind throughout the park, where white-tail deer and fox are common sights.

    Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

    • Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is the donated former estate of the park's namesake, located within walking distance of popular Fort Lauderdale beaches, vacation rentals and shops. The park is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, and offers hiking trails, cycling paths, picnic areas and places to fish, swim, kayak and canoe. Canoe rentals are offered on-site. Entry fees apply for both pedestrians and vehicles, and camping fees also apply. Only organized groups may use the park's designated campground area, which has restrooms, clean water and electricity, for overnight stays. Others may camp in various more remote areas of the park for a much smaller nightly fee.

    Rock Springs Run State Reserve

    • Rock Springs Run State Reserve is a central Florida state park full of streams, swamps, lagoons and towering pines. Like many of Florida's parks, Rock Springs Run offers opportunities for cycling, hiking and canoeing, but unlike most parks it also features an equestrian facility. Guided horseback riding excursions, including equestrian camping adventures, can be arranged at the park throughout the year. The equestrian facility and certain other areas are occasionally closed to the public for seasonal maintenance and special hunting events. While there is no established campground at the reserve, visitors looking for a more primitive camping experience can reach appropriate camping grounds by canoe. Fees are associated with all camping experiences, and swimming at this park is prohibited.
