Ocala National Forest is a state park located within Putnam, Lake and Marion counties in Florida. It's one of the most popular parks in the United States. It includes more than 380,000 acres and contains natural springs. There are three camping classifications.
Developed camping is an area set up for camping and contains amenities like showers, grills, and restrooms, with prices ranging from $4 to $20 as of 2009. Of the 20 developed campsites, Salt Springs is the only one that offers full hook-up service.
Primitive camping, for tents only, is free to access. There are small areas along the trails set aside for camping, but there are no amenities available.
Dispersed camping is also free and for people who like to "rough it." Dispersed campers find a spot off the hiking trails and set up camp on their own.
There are more than 65 miles of hiking and biking trails available at Ocala National Forest. The trails are a favorite of birdwatchers.
Summers at Ocala National Forest tend to be hot, humid and often wet. Winters are more comfortable, with the average high near 70 degrees.
