RV Camping in the State Parks of Alabama

Alabama lies in along the Gulf Coast of the southern United States. The area is known for its warm weather, beaches and beautiful scenery. Alabama has a number of attractions, such as the U.S Space and Rocket Center, the Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic and annual Alabama Shakespeare Festival, one of the largest in the world.   1. Oak Mountain State Park

    • Oak Mountain State Park is the largest park in Alabama and is set on almost 10,000 acres of woods. Oak Mountain has a pro shop, snack bar, picnicking, bike trails, swimming, boating and backpacking. The campground has 60 RV sites, all with water, sewer and electrical hook-ups. Hot showers are available, and the pro shop at the camp golf course is a wireless hot spot. Pets are allowed, but must stay leashed. Reservations are recommended and are taken Mondays through Thursdays by calling 1-800-ALA-PARK.

    Joe Wheeler State Park

    • Joe Wheeler State Park not only has RV camping but also a resort lodge, cabins, convention facilities, a marina and restaurant. The park has 110 sites with electric, water and sewer hook-ups, as well as shower facilities. Seniors and the disabled can receive 15 percent discounts on camping fees, except during holiday weekends. In addition to areas for fishing, boating and golf, there are also trails and picnic areas. The park is dog-friendly. Joe Wheeler State Park also offers boat and cabin rentals.

    Lake Guntersville State Park

    • Lake Guntersville State Park is located in the piney woods and features 366 campsites. There are several different kinds of sites, including primitive sites and those with full hook-ups. The campground also contains picnic tables, grills, a store, play areas and shower facilities. Lake Guntersville is also home to a nature center, beach and beach pavilion. Guests at Lake Guntersville can swim, hike, boat, fish and play golf. Boat rentals, cabins and chalets are also available. The park is also home to the Pinecrest Dining Room, which has weekend buffets and daily breakfast, lunch and dinner.
