State RV Parks in California

There are more than 270 state parks in California and many of them offer full hookups for RVs. Parks are located in many different regions of the state, including the North Coast, the San Francisco Bay area, San Diego County, Central Valley, Gold Country, High Sierra, the deserts and more. Parks may feature wilderness areas, beaches, recreation areas, wildlife preserves or historic areas.
  1. Calveras Big Trees State Park

    • Calveras Big Trees State Park is located in Arnold, California and offers campsites for RVs up to 30 feet long in both the North Grove and the Oak Hollow campgrounds. Amenities include piped water, flushing toilets, coin showers, picnic tables and fire rings. Recreational activities include hiking, swimming, picnicking, biking, fishing and during the winter, cross-country skiing. Hiking trails are available for all levels of ability, including a rope-guided Three Senses Trail for visually impaired guests. The barrier-free North Grove Trail is available for physically challenged guests. An abundance of wildlife may be observed, such as deer, raccoons, flying squirrels and gray squirrels, chipmunks and numerous species of birds. On occasion, black bears, coyotes or bobcats may be seen. Dogs must be kept on a leash and are not permitted on the trails or in the woods.

    Silver Strand State Beach

    • Silver Strand State Beach is located just south of Coronado. It features both ocean beach and a view of the San Diego Bay. The park offers 136 camping spaces for self-contained recreational vehicles, as there are no hookups available. Activities include fishing, swimming, sailing, surfing, boating, water-skiing, kite boarding (in designated areas), volleyball and picnicking. Fire rings, barbecue pits and picnic tables are available at both the beach and the bay. Restrooms and cold water rinsing showers are located on both sides of the park. The Crown Cove Aquatic Center offers courses in CPR, first aid, lifeguard training, boating safety and swift water rescue. The park also offers nature walks, campfire programs, kayak tours, grunion runs and wireless Internet access. Dogs must be on leash and are only permitted in the camping area lots and day use areas.

    Point Mugu State Park

    • Point Mugu State Park is located in Malibu, in the Santa Monica Mountains. It features beaches, rocky bluffs and two river canyons with grassy valleys. Campsites are available for campers or trailers that are no more than 31 feet long. Amenities include restrooms, token operated showers, dump station, ranger station, wireless Internet and picnic tables. Thornhill Broome Campground offers portable chemical toilets only. Activities include swimming, surf fishing, body surfing and hiking on more than 70 miles of trails. Sycamore Canyon Trail features an area where millions of monarch butterflies gather during the fall. School group field trips may be arranged. Camping reservations may be made as early as seven months in advance.
