Campgrounds Near Atwood Lake Park, Ohio

Atwood Lake Park in northeastern Ohio is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. The centerpiece of the 4,540-acre park is the 1,540-acre lake for which the park is named. Although boating, fishing, swimming and other water-related activities rank high among the park’s attractions, there are also plenty of activities here for landlubbers, including biking, hiking and hunting. If you’re a camper who would like to spend a few nights in the area, you can choose between the park’s sprawling campground and a handful of others within a 20-mile radius.

  1. Atwood Lake Park Campground

    • With more than 500 sites, the campground in Atwood Lake Park is by far the largest camping facility in the area. Open year-round, all campsites have electricity, and 62 sites have full hookups. For those with no camping gear, the park has several rental cabins. Close to the shores of Atwood Lake, the campground offers easy access to a sandy swimming beach, boat launch ramps, concession stands, hiking trails, and the activity and nature centers. Other park amenities include a camp store, coin laundry, restrooms, showers, free Wi-Fi, picnic grounds and a playground. For anglers, the lake is well stocked with largemouth bass, bluegills, bullheads, channel catfish, crappies, yellow perch and northern pike. Hunting and trapping are permitted in specified areas of the park, all of which are well removed from the campground and nearby residential areas. Duck blinds may be built up to two weeks prior to the opening of waterfowl season and must be dismantled and removed by March 1.

    Wood's Tall Timbers Lake Resort

    • For campers at Wood’s Tall Timbers Resort, the focal point for much of the campground’s recreational activities is its 7-acre lake, which features a swimming beach, two diving boards, water slides, boat and canoe rentals and a bait shop. Other recreational facilities include a nine-hole, par-3 golf course, hiking trails, kids’ and adults’ trampolines, a playground, game room, target range and putt-putt golf course. The campground has more than 100 sites, ranging from primitive ones for tent camping to RV sites with water and electricity. Also available are several rental cottages. Eight miles southwest of Atwood Lake Park, the 157-acre resort is typically open from early May until late October. Additional amenities include a snack bar, lakeside lodge that can be reserved for special events, bathhouse with restrooms and showers, Wi-Fi hot spot and gated security.

    ABC Country Camping and Cabins

    • Fifteen miles northeast of Atwood Lake Park, ABC Country Camping and Cabins opens in early May and closes in mid-October. All of its 130 campsites have water and electricity, and 25 sites are pull-throughs that can easily accommodate larger rigs. Rental cabins of varying sizes are also available, as is an overflow area for primitive tent camping. Pets are welcome in the camping area but are prohibited in the rental cabins. Recreational facilities include a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, fishing pond, ball field, sports courts, and a recreation hall with a pool table and game room. Among the campground’s other facilities are a camp store, flush toilets, showers and a dump station.

    Bear Creek Resort Ranch KOA

    • Bear Creek Resort Ranch KOA, 19 miles northwest of Atwood Lake Park, offers a variety of accommodations, ranging from 124 level campsites for RVs and tents to camping cabins and country cottages with heating and air conditioning. Open year-round, the resort has a wide array of recreational activities, including swimming, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, and miniature golf. Other facilities and services include restrooms, showers, a dog run, camp store, coin laundry and dump station. Nearby attractions include the Pro Football Hall of Fame, McKinley Presidential Library and Museum and the Canton Classic Car Museum.
