Campgrounds Near Clarksville, VA

From its history as one of the largest tobacco markets to its thriving tourism industry among outdoor enthusiasts, Clarksville, Virginia has had a significant impact on the state's economy since it was incorporated in 1818. When you're in the Clarksville area, you don't have to go too far to find a campground. Five recreation areas are within 23 miles of town and offer everything from primitive walk-in campsites to RV campsites with electricity. Each park is located along Buggs Island Lake, a 50,000-acre lake ideal for fishing and boating.
  1. Occoneechee State Park

    • The Occoneechee State Park campground is 3 miles from Clarksville and open year-round. It's situated along the shores of Buggs Island Lake, near 3 miles of hiking and walking trails. Campsites include two- and three-bedroom cabins -- some of which are pet-friendly -- horse campsites, standard campsites without electricity and campsites with electric hookups. Learn about Occoneechee Indians through the park's historical programs or launch your boat into the lake, also known as the John H. Kerr Reservoir.

    Longwood Park

    • Longwood Park is located 4 miles south of Clarksville along Buggs Island Lake. The park has biking and hiking trails, wildlife viewing, public land for hunting and a boat ramp. While you're boating on the lake, cast your line to catch a largemouth bass, flathead catfish or crappie. Longwood Park's seasonal campground offers 66 campsites, half of which have electric hookups. Campground amenities include bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a swimming beach, a playground, picnic shelter and a sanitary dump station.

    Rudds Creek Recreation Area

    • Rudds Creek Recreation Area is situated about 7 miles from Clarksville, close to the north part of Buggs Island Lake. Bring your binoculars with you and keep an eye out for local wildlife such as bobwhite quail, wild turkeys and cottontail rabbits. The recreation area also has fishing areas, trails and a campground with 99 campsites, most with electric service. The campground also has restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a swimming beach, picnic shelter and a dump station.

    Buffalo Park

    • Buffalo Park, located 22 miles northwest of Clarksville, is one of the smaller parks along Buggs Island Lake. The park has a sandy beach for swimming, restrooms with hot showers, a playground and a campground with a sanitary dump station. This pet-friendly campground has 21 campsites, including six that can accommodate big rigs between 60 and 85 feet long and 11 sites with electric hookups.

    North Bend Park

    • The campground at North Bend Park, 23 miles from Clarksville, is one of the largest in the area, with 244 campsites, including 138 with electric service. North Bend Park's campsites can accommodate campers that from 10 to 30 feet long. It also has trash collection, interpretive trails and a fishing dock on-site. While in the park, look out for the soaring blue herons or whitetail deer that live in the area.
