Campgrounds Near Knoxville, Tennessee

Knoxville, Tennessee, has several RV parks but limited opportunities for tent campers. Still, campers who prefer a more rustic experience can find tent sites less than 25 miles from Knoxville. Home to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville activities include biking, visiting art galleries and museums, dining in fine restaurants and taking a riverboat ride.

    • Southlake RV Park is the RV park closest to Knoxville. It has 90 RV sites with full hookups, 37 RV sites with water and electric and 27 tent-camping sites.     Volunteer Park Family Campground

    • Volunteer Park Family Campground is located 12 miles from Knoxville in Heiskell. It has both tent campsites and RV sites, all located in wooded areas. The campground offers limited RV supplies and repairs and a small convenience store. It offers the usual amenities including laundry, showers, a pool, horseshoe pits and a card room. The facility has a handicapped-accessible bathroom and also features nature trails.

    Fox Inn Campground

    • Fox Inn Campground is located at Clinton, less than 15 miles from Knoxville. The facility offers full-service RV hookups, including cable TV and Internet access. There is a game room for the kids; it has a pool table, air hockey and arcade games. The exercise room is open to campers over the age of 16. Fox Inn also has a swimming pool, laundry facilities and basketball and volleyball areas.

    Norris Dam State Park

    • Norris Dam State Park is located near Lake City, which is about 22 miles from Knoxville. The park was the first Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) project. At more than 4,000 acres, it offers boating, fishing and water-skiing. A commercial marina is located at the reservoir. The park offers 25 tent camping spaces in one section and 50 tent sites in another. Some sites in the east section are more primitive and do not have tables, grills or hookups. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
