Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers 10 developed campgrounds and also backcountry camping. The park offers restrooms with cold running water and flushing toilets, but no showers or electricity hook-ups. Showers can be found in neighboring towns and cities. Backcountry camping requires a free permit, and campers must camp at designated sites and shelters along the trails.

Griffin Island Campground covers 32 acres, including a 14-acre island. Boat, RV and camper rentals are all available, along with full hook-up sites. Tent sites are available with camper rental. Griffin Island maintains a private feel, with full-growth trees towering around the island's open areas. Wildlife and visitors alike take comfort in the privacy provided by the trees.

Walden's Creek is located a half-mile from the parkway in Pigeon Forge, making it convenient for visitors to travel to attractions or catch the trolley that runs from Sevierville to Gatlinburg or Dollywood. Offering full hook-up sites and tent camping, amenities offered at this campground include paved roads, a bathhouse with air-conditioning and heat, a creek-side deck and cable television.

Riverbend Campground offers 130 full hook-up sites, 100 with concrete pads. Five tent sites are also available. Located within walking distance of the parkway and trolley, visitors can conveniently travel to the nearby shopping, dining and attractions, and can walk to popular music shows. Saturday night gospel singing and Sunday morning worship are also offered at Riverbend.
