Campgrounds Near Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Although Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is less than 40 minutes' drive to Nashville, this city of over 100,000 has its own attractions. Stones River Battlefield and Oaklands Historic House Museum give insights into the area's Civil War past, while The Avenue mall offers more than 800,000 square feet of shopping. Murfreesboro has no RV parks or campgrounds of its own, but you will find places to camp within half an hour's drive.

    • This RV park is open year-round. On-site amenities include a convenience store that sells propane, a dump station, laundry room and recreation room. The campground's location just off Interstate 24 puts it around 20 minutes' drive northwest of Murfreesboro and 30 minutes southeast of Nashville. The campground offers four cabins and more than 100 RV spaces. Your space comes with full or partial hookups and your choice of 30 or 50 amp service. Some sites are pull-through, and the campground provides wireless Internet. Kids will enjoy the outdoor pool, which is open in summer only, the basketball court and a playground. Tent camping is also available.

    Poole Knobs Campground

    • Poole Knobs Campground is an Army Corps of Engineers campground located 25 minutes' drive northwest of Murfreesboro. Its rural setting beside J. Percy Priest Lake offers a change from suburban views, but only during the summer, as this campground is closed from October 1 through April 30, according to Recreation.gov. You'll be able to spot wildlife, such as white-tailed deer and raccoons, from your choice of 87 spaces. If you're in a group, you may reserve the group camping area. The campground offers showers, a boat launch, laundry room and dump station. For weekend stays, a minimum of two nights is required--three for holiday weekends.

    Cedars of Lebanon State Park

    • For another rural stay, Cedars of Lebanon State Park is located half an hour's drive north of Murfreesboro. The 900-acre, wooded state park offers camping and cabins, plus horseback riding, hiking, swimming and picnicking. Cedars of Lebanon is adjacent to more than 8,000 acres of state forest. Groups may take advantage of a meeting room and lodge. The campground offers 117 sites with picnic tables, grills and partial hookups. Onsite amenities include shower blocks, a dump station and laundry room. The camp store is open seasonally, though the campground itself is open year-round. You cannot make reservations at the campground, but the cabins may be reserved. During the summer, the park presents nature programs through the Merritt Nature Center.
