The nation’s oldest city, St. Augustine welcomes visitors with a mild climate, a cobblestoned historic district and miles of sandy beaches. Campers who want to wake up to the smell of fresh ocean air can choose from three St. Augustine campgrounds located right on the oceanfront. In addition to these, a few St. Augustine campgrounds offer beach access a short distance away.
Anastasia State Park, which occupies a large swath of the coast near central St. Augustine, has dozens of campsites available for both RV and tent campers. An ideal option for campers who want to immerse themselves in a pristine coastal environment, Anastasia State Park occupies 1,600 acres, with a tidal salt marsh and 4 miles of uninterrupted beach. Hammock plants act as natural privacy barriers between campsites, and campers can enjoy a range of amenities such as a fishing pier, an on-site restaurant and abundant hiking trails. Campers who want to enjoy the water can rent kayaks from Anastasia Watersports or make use of a lifeguarded swimming beach.
North Beach Camp Resort sits on a barrier island less than 5 miles north of St. Augustine’s historic center. RV campers can choose from sites with full hook-ups and 30-50 amp electrical service, while tent campers can choose more economical sites with 20 amp outlets. In addition to North Beach on the Atlantic, campers here have access to the saltwater North River, which has a boat ramp and allows fishing without a license. North Beach Camp Resort also has a camp store, bait shop and an on-site restaurant. The resort even has its own ship, the Victory III, and discounted sightseeing cruises for campground guests.
Located on St. Augustine Beach just minutes from downtown, Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort caters mainly to RV travelers, with oceanfront, beachfront and oceanside sites available at daily to monthly rates. Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort also has park model accommodations for guests who want to enjoy its beachfront location but do not have their own RV. This resort welcomes children with a playground, and all guests can enjoy the tennis courts, shuffleboard and swimming pool. Vacationers do not even have to worry about cleaning their RV, thanks to Bryn Mawr Resort’s optional housekeeping service.
The Matanzas State Forest, which spreads over 4,700 acres 13 miles south of St. Augustine, preserves a rare example of undisturbed coastal salt marsh, with primitive campsites available off of the park’s Eagle’s Nest Road. Guests can access a public beach at the Fort Matanzas National Monument. PepperTree RV Resort, located across the street from Bryn Mawr Resort, welcomes campers with full hook-up sites, a swimming pool and access to St. Augustine Beach. The centrally located St. Augustine Beach KOA sits just three-quarters of a mile from the beach. Campers can choose from full hook-up RV sites, dedicated tent sites with electricity and water, and air-conditioned cabins that sleep four.
