Fed by underground springs from a nearby mountain, the two-tiered Multnomah Falls is likely the most visited of the 77 waterfalls on Oregon's side of the Columbia Gorge. Water gushes from the gorge and crashes into a basin before flowing over another fall and then into the Multnomah Creek, which feeds into the Columbia River that separates Oregon from Washington state.
If traveling to Multnomah Falls from Portland, the woodsy Crown Point RV Park in Corbett, Oregon, is your first stop at the onset of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. It's also the closest recreational vehicle park to the Falls -- about 11 miles west. The park accommodates 21 recreational vehicles throughout the year on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Spots come equipped with 20-, 30- and 50-amp service and free wireless Internet. On-site laundry and shower facilities are also available.
In Cascade Locks, Oregon -- nearly 13 miles northeast of Multnomah Falls -- Bridge of the Gods Motel, Cabins and RV Park rents parking for moderately sized recreational vehicles. None of the sites are pull-through nor can any fit a trailer longer than 40 feet. All sites are equipped with at least 30-amp electrical hook-ups, and two possess 50-amp capabilities. While the park is home to numerous trees, surrounding views of evergreen-laden Columbia Gorge are not obscured.
On the north side of the Columbia River outside North Bonneville, Washington, Lewis and Clark Campground and RV Park lies tucked into the tall firs at the base of the gorge. Each of the 43 shady sites have a fire pit, picnic table and electric and water hook-ups. Coin-operated laundry and shower facilities are available. The campground rents sites by the day, week and month. The campground is 18 miles from Multnomah Falls.
After crossing the Bridge of the Gods into Washington, continue northeast to The Resort at Skamania Coves. The resort, 18 miles from the falls, has 17 spots for recreational vehicles. Ten of the spots accommodate very large vehicles, providing 50-amp electrical service. Some spots are shaded while others are not, but all are within a short walk to the Columbia riverbank, where there's a small beach for launching boats. The RV park is open seasonal, April through October.
