West Yellowstone grew with the popularity of Yellowstone National Park. The area was first used for tourism when guides took guests through the park following the Madison River. In 1908 trains started bringing tourists through Park, Idaho and over what is know West Yellowstone. At first tourists did not see West Yellowstone as a destination area, but over the years people have realized the outdoor activities and opportunities the "town at the end of the line" has to offer.
West Yellowstone not only has numerous lakes and rivers, but horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking and float trips abound. For city-folk there are even many restaurants, grocery stores, nightclubs, museums, a convention center, a shopping district, a movie theater and live theaters. But the natural beauty of the magnificent park itself is always the main focus, with its many different types of plant life, the prestigious mountains, majestic wildlife and the lushness of the forests.
Camping on any area of West Yellowstone other than designated camping areas is prohibited. This includes in vehicles or tents. Sites may only be rented for 14 days between June 15 and September 15. However, the rest of the year sites are available for up to one month.
Yellowstone National Park is one of the most popular areas to enjoy the country's natural beauty. Therefore from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. every day quiet hours are in effect. This means no generators, loud music or other loud noises are allowed. Anyone who breaks this rule will be fined and possibly asked to vacate the campground in West Yellowstone.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park and Cabins is four blocks from town with most of the attractions in easy walking distance. Built in August of 1996, the park will accept any size RV has well manicured sites. All the sites are full hookup with sewer, water, electric and cable. Sites are moderately priced and premium sites come with free Wi-Fi. Non-premium sites include Wi-Fi for an additional charge. The park has 192 sites.
