On the south end of Galveston Island, San Luis Pass County Park is operated by Brazoria County and was once a popular waterway for pirates.
The five-acre bayside park offers 69 paved campsites with full 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water and sewer hookups, picnic tables and grills. Both back-in and pull-through sites are available, and the park has restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. The park has a dump station. Some sites are waterfront.
You can put your boat in the water from the park's ramp and indulge in a variety of water sports or fishing. Or you can lounge on the beach, go swimming, take a nature walk or go seashell hunting.
Galveston Island State Park on Seawall Drive is open year-round and has 170 campsites with water and electrical hookups. The park has a dump station and allows leashed pets. Sites have picnic tables and grills.The park has a few sites with Internet access.
You must pay an entrance fee, but passes are available.
Fishing, boating and swimming are the main activities for campers, but you can also explore several hiking trails.
There are several private parks in Galveston.
Bayou Shores is close to downtown Galveston but still close enough to the water for you to launch your boat from the park's pier. The campground offers beaches, fishing and rental paddle boats, plus a convenience store, playground, laundry and office center.
All 84 sites have full power, water and sewer hookups. Some sites have 50-amp electrical service and nine sites are pull-throughs. The park has a restaurant and bar and some Internet service.
Jamaica Beach RV Park's 50 campsites all have concrete pull-throughs, 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water and sewer hookups. Wi-Fi and cable television are available.
The park has a pool and spa, restrooms, a clubhouse and laundry, and you can get a complimentary breakfast on weekends.
Galveston Bay RV Resort offers 82 RV sites with full hookups, including 50-amp service. The campground has 34 pull-through sites, concrete pads and can accommodate big rigs. Some campsites are waterfront. While pets are welcome, the park restricts the number of pets you have, so call ahead before taking your dogs along for a visit.
Internet connections are available and the park has a laundry, clubhouse, kitchen, showers and bath. Anglers can enjoy spending time at the fishing piers.
Have a water balloon war and play a round of miniature golf at Pirate's Treasures on Galveston Island, or opt for a more challenging game at one of seven Galveston area golf courses.
Stroll, bike or jog on the world's longest sidewalk, the 10.4-mile seawall. Crank up your boat or unfurl your sails and skim along the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico or Galveston Bay. If you prefer to be in the water, try surfing or windsurfing from the Bay or Gulf beaches.
Pit your angling skills against the wits of speckled trout, redfish, drum and Spanish mackerel inshore, or lure in the red snappers and king mackerel offshore.
Galveston Island enjoys mild weather most of the year. While it can get hot in the summer, the sea breeze makes the air feel cooler. In winter, the temperatures range from the low 60s to the low 80s.
