The (less famous) Yellowstone Park Campground-Resort is in Sanford, Maine. This small town is just over 20 minutes from the seaside town of Kennebunk, a little under an hour away from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and about the same distance from Portland, Maine's largest city. The campground is also just a few steps away from the Number One Pond in the middle of Sanford.
Boasting 131 camp sites (in both open and wooded areas), the campground has full water, electric, and sewer RV hook-ups, as well as a dump station. The swimming pool, recreation hall, group picnic area and playground will provide hours of entertainment. Yellowstone offers helpful amenities to make your stay more pleasant, such as hot water showers and restrooms, laundry facilities and a small store with necessities such as firewood and ice.
Yellowstone welcomes pets, but require they be kept on your camp site or leashed. It also provides a pet exercise and relief area to make your stay more enjoyable for you and your pet.
Yellowstone Park Campground-Resort offers a wide variety of activities for the whole family. Some are available throughout its months of operation, weather permitting, including swimming, baseball, hiking, basketball, horseshoes, volleyball and tetherball. The recreation center offers activities such as pinball games and movies; at night, experience the excitement of campfires and sing-a-longs. And, depending on when you visit, you may be to see Yellowstone's Annual Classic Car Show. The campground offers other activities throughout the year; call beforehand to find out what may be going on during your stay.
Yellowstone Park Campground-Resort is open mid-May through mid-September. Reservations must be accompanied by a deposit, or you will be received on a first-come, first-served basis. Weekends and holidays require a three-day deposit; all others require a one-day deposit.
The Yellowstone Park Campground-Resort is conveniently located just 5 miles from a Shaw's Grocery Store and a Wal-Mart, and just 10 miles from public ocean beaches.
Yellowstone is also just an hour and a half from North Conway, New Hampshire, and its scenic cog railway, as well as nearby Mount Washington, which, at 6,288 feet, is the highest peak in the northeastern United States and whose slogan is "Home of the World's Worst Weather."
In addition, Yellowstone is close to many scenic New England lighthouses and both salt and fresh water fishing facilities.
