Robert H. Treman State Park Camping

Located about 15 minutes from Ithaca, New York, Robert H. Treman State Park (nysparks.com) spans 1,072 acres along Enfield Creek, which tumbles over 12 waterfalls on its way down the Enfield Gorge. Though perhaps best known for its waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, this state park also has opportunities for hiking, fishing and swimming. If you'd like to stay overnight, you can choose among tent campsites, RV sites and cabins.
  1. Campground

    • The campground at Robert H. Treman State Park is shady and secluded, with more than 70 sites below a thick canopy of adult trees. At the eastern end of the park, the campground has tents-only sites as well as RV campsites, which are open to tents and RVs alike. Some campsites can accommodate RVs up to 50 feet in length, and many sites are a short walk from Enfield Creek. The campground also has several rustic cabins.

    Amenities

    • A few of the RV campsites have 30-amp electrical hookups, but water and sewer hookups are not available. The campground has modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, and you can get potable drinking water from several spigots throughout the campground. Each campsite has a picnic table and campfire ring. The cabins have minimal amenities; beds, cookware and heat are not provided. Other facilities in the campground area include a playground, picnic area, RV dump station and recycling station.

    Recreation

    • Hiking is a popular activity in Robert H. Treman State Park, and you can explore the park on nine miles of hiking trails, including the Gorge Trail, which provides access to Enfield Creek and its waterfalls. The short trail that leads to the Lower Falls and swimming area is ADA-accessible. Swimming is available from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Enfield Gorge has many opportunities for photography, birdwatching and fossil hunting, and the creek is known to be a productive trout stream. With a current New York fishing license you can cast a line for trout and other fish species. You can also take part in gorge tours and educational programs, which are held regularly.

    Considerations

    • Robert H. Treman State Park is open year-round, and camping is available from roughly mid-April to mid-November. Although campsites might be available on a first-come, first-served basis, reservations are recommended, particularly during busy summer season. You can reserve a campsite or cabin by phone or through Reserve America up to nine months in advance. Pets are allowed in the campground but must be cleaned up after and kept on a 6-foot leash. Two cabins and two cabins are ADA-accessible.
