Family Fun & Campgrounds in Minnesota

Known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota has an abundance of campgrounds to accommodate those looking to enjoy the outdoor experience. Many of these campgrounds feature amenities and activities that are particularly designed to attract families. These include organized events such as hay rides and movie nights as well as facilities that include miniature golf courses and pools.

    • Jellystone Park is located in Southern Minnesota in the town of Austin. Activities for children include theme weekends, getting wet in the the Yogi Bear Splash zone, hay rides and pedal boats. There is also a petting pen with farm animals, a miniature golf course and a jumping pillow. Campers can stay in tents, on RV sites or in cabins. Amenities on the property include restrooms, showers houses, a laundry facility and a convenience store. Jellystone Park also has a picnic area with a pavilion and offers free wireless Internet. The RV sites are equipped with water, sewer and electric connections of either 20, 30 or 50 amps. The cabins cone with fully equipped kitchens.

    Shades of Sherwood Camping Park

    • The Shades of Sherwood Camping Park in Eastern Minnesota has a large variety of activities for children, including kiddie train and wagon rides, miniature golf, pancake breakfasts, pedal carts, and tubing in the river. Other special events are regularly scheduled. In one week in May, for instance, the park holds an Easter egg hunt, an egg toss, a jelly bean relay and a coloring contest. Another highlight is its Robin Hood Days/King Arthur's Tournament in September that features medieval competitions, garage sales and free covered wagon rides. Restrooms, showers and a dump station are located at a campground with tent and RV sites. Some RV sites have just water and electric hookups. Other sites also come with sewer connections.

    Albert Lea/Austin KOA

    • The Albert Lea/Austin KOA in Southern Minnesota has activities for children and families such as arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor movie nights and scavenger hunts. Children can also swim in adult and kiddie pools, make tie-dye shirts, or take advantage of a game room. The Albert Lea/Austin KOA has RV sites, tent sites and cabins. The RV sites have water, sewer and electric connections. The electric is either 20, 30 or 50 amps. Amenities on a property that has free wireless Internet include showers, restrooms and a picnic area. A nine-hole golf course is located next to the KOA. The SPAM Museum, the Mall of America and the Diamond Jo Casino are in the area.
