Southeast Georgia Campgrounds

Southeast Georgia is a popular destination for camping. In addition to a temperate climate, the area features the Okefenokee Swamp, a national seashore, and numerous lakes, rivers and forests. Boating, swimming, hiking and fishing are some of the popular activities in this area. Both public and private campgrounds are available in Southeast Georgia.
  1. Jacksonville North/St. Marys KOA

    • The Jacksonville North/St. Marys KOA is conveniently located near an exit on Interstate 95 and is less than half a mile from Florida and the St. Mary's River. Attractions in the area include the Cumberland Island National Seashore, the historic town of St. Mary's and the Okefenokee Swamp. The KOA has a swimming pool, free Wi-Fi Internet access and movie rentals. A group pavilion is available with ceiling fans, tables and a grill. Campers have the option of staying on RV sites, tent sites or in cabins. The RV sites are full hookups with 50-amp electric available. The sites also come with free cable TV. Firewood can be purchased on the grounds.

    Crooked River State Park

    • The Crooked River State Park is situated along Georgia's coast and near the Florida border. The camping sites are in a grove of oak trees covered with Spanish moss and campers can also choose to stay in cottages near the Crooked River. Children will enjoy the the park's nature center, which has fish, turtles, snakes and other animals. The park has a nature trail that travels through a forest and swamp land. Facilities at the 500-acre park include 62 camping sites for tents or RVs, 11 cottages, five picnic areas, a boat dock, a ramp and a playground for children. The camping sites are equipped with water, either 30- or 50-amp electrical service, picnic tables, grills and fire ring. The campground also restrooms, showers and a laundry room.

    Stephen C. Foster State Park

    • The Stephen C. Foster State Park in Fargo is named after the songwriter Stephen Foster and is a main entrance to the Okefenokee Swamp. Wildlife in the park includes alligators, raccoons, turtles, black bear, deer and numerous types of birds. The par has an elevated boardwalk that is part of a nature trail and offers a guided pontoon boat trip. The 80-acre park has 64 tent or RV sites that come with cable TV, as well as nine cottages, three picnic shelters, a group campground and a playground for children. A two-night stay is required on weekends at the campground, which has 30-amp electric service, a picnic table, a grill and a fire ring at each site. The campground also has restrooms, showers and a laundry facility.
