Campgrounds in Dahlonega, Georgia

Dahlonega, located near the Chattahoochee National Forest, is a gateway to the Appalachian Trail which stretches along the mountains from Georgia to Maine. Dahlonega was home to the first gold rush in 1828, and today features a rich and expanding culture of performing and visual arts, wineries and an abundance of outdoor recreational activities. Campers will find an assortment of accommodations that are located near the historic downtown while being nestled within the mountain scenery.

    • R-Ranch in the Mountains is a member-owned 1,027-acre resort located in the north Georgia mountains in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The resort is 15 minutes from downtown Dahlonega. The grounds feature hiking, biking jogging and equestrian trails, lakes for fishing and swimming, a heated pool, stables and lodge. R-Ranch has 150 RV sites, 6 tent sites and more than 60 cabins. The RV sites vary in amenities such as gravel or concrete pad, full or partial hook-ups and surrounding scenery. Hot showers, flush toilets and modem hook-ups are available. The resort is available by lease, but limits the owner's stays to no more then 14 consecutive nights with 3 days between stays.

    Etowah River Campground

    • Etowah River Campground is located along 1,500 ft. of the river of the same name, mere minutes from historic downtown Dahlonega. The Etowah River is a hot spot for trout fishing. The grounds feature a playground for children, tube rental for a relaxing run down the river, flush toilets and hot showers. The sites vary with regard to hook-ups, offering pull-through sites with full hookups and tent sites. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Rates are available daily, weekly or monthly. Group rates and senior citizen discounts are available.

    Dockery Lake Recreation Area

    • The Dockery Lake Recreation Area overlooks Dockery Lake in the Chattahoochee National Forest off Highway 60. The campground has 11 campsites that are available on a first-come-first-serve basis from March 27 through November 1. The grounds feature vault toilets, clean drinking water, trout fishing and access to the Dockery Lake Trail that connects to the Appalachian Trail at Miller Gap. Each site is equipped with a tent pad, fire pit, grill, lantern pole and picnic table. The grounds are for tent camping only; there are no electrical or sewer hook-ups or dump station for RVs. Day use picnic tables are available along the lakeshore.
