Helen, Georgia Area Campgrounds

Helen is a village tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains and designed as an Alpine village retreat. Several campgrounds in the area offer easy access to both Helen and the nearby state and national parks. Campgrounds range from rustic to full-hookup. Campers in this area should always practice safe storage techniques as this is black bear country.
  1. Unicoi State Park

    • The campgrounds at Unicoi State Park are operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Unicoi is a 1,050-acre park in the North Georgia Mountains and is just two miles from the Alpine village of Helen. The park offers 82 tent and RV sites with electric and water. Sites are either 30 feet or 40 feet and include 20/30/40-amp service. A limited number of full-hookup sites are available as are a handful of handicapped-accessible sites. An additional 33 walk-in sites offer electric only and are restricted to tent camping. The park also features a lodge and conference center, rental cottages, a 53-acre lake, hiking and biking trails, a swimming beach, playgrounds and tennis courts.

    Andrews Cove Campground

    • Andrews Cove is located at Chattahoochee national forest and is operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is roughly five miles from downtown Helen and offers 10 campsites along Andrews creek. Five sites are RV-accessible; the other five are restricted to tents. All sites are wooded and offer tent pads, picnic tables, grills and lantern posts. Stays are limited to 21 days. No electric hookups or drinking water is available. Those who wish to fish in the area must have a current Georgia fishing license with a trout stamp. The campground is close to both Interstate 75 and numerous hiking trails. No reservations are required and sites are occupied on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Cherokee Campground

    • Cherokee Campground is a privately-held campground and RV park located in Sautee Nacoochee, just five miles from Helen. It offers 38 wooded lots with 30/50 amp service, water, sewer, cable and wireless Internet. The roads are paved, but sites are either gravel or grass. On-site recreational options include a basketball court, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, a playground, tether ball and picnicking. The climate-controlled recreation hall offers a television, board games, table tennis and darts. Laundry facilities are available. The campground is open year-round.
