Operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Mistletoe State Park is located a few miles out of Augusta on Clark Hill Lake, which the state reports as one of the best spots for bass fishing in the United States. Mistletoe has 96 sites for tents, trailers or recreational vehicles up to 40 feet long; these sites have water and electrical hook-ups, picnic tables and fire rings. The park also has four walk-in campsites. Mistletoe also has a wildlife viewing area, 3.5 miles of nature trails, 12 miles of hiking trails and three boat launches.

Lick Fork Lake Campground is located in Francis Marion Natural Forest where it is operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Lick Fork cam be found in South Carolina just 17 miles away from Augusta. Lick Fork is a small campground with only nine sites located along a 12-acre lake, which makes it ideal for campers who want to get away from it all. Campground amenities include showers, garbage cans, swimming, fishing, non-motorized boating and a 2-mile nature walk. The campground is open April 15 through Dec. 15.

Petersburg Campground is located 21 miles away from Augusta on J. Strom Thurmond Lake. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is its closest campground to Augusta. This campground has 93 sites, most of which offer 50-amp electricity and water; a dump station is on-site. Open year-round, the campground has swimming beaches, a hiking trail, pond, and fishing dock and cleaning station. It is close to Lake Springs Recreation Area, which has more beaches, playgrounds and a boat launch.
