Campgrounds in Canton, Georgia

Canton is a fast-growing city in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Georgia. As of 2008, Canton has a population of 22,724 people. Originally a Cherokee Indian settlement, it became a gold mining town in the 1800s. Canton is the county seat for Cherokee County. Nearby attractions include Lake Allatoona, which has 270 miles of shoreline, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps of Engineers runs three lakefront campgrounds in or near Canton.
  1. Sweetwater Campground

    • The Sweetwater Campground is in Canton, near the Tellus Science Museum, the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site and the Cherokee County Arts Center. The campground has 151 sites for RV and tent camping. Most RV sites have water and electrical hookups. Some sites sit on Lake Allatoona’s shore. Amenities include a fishing dock, a boat launch area, a playground, a pavilion area with grills and picnic tables, fire pits, a dump station, restrooms with showers and a laundry room. There are convenience stores within six miles of the campground. The campground allows pets but only two pets per campsite. It's open from April to September. During most of the camping season, you can reserve campsites online or by telephone. During some weeks in July and August, the campsites are available on a first come, first serve basis.

    Payne Campground

    • Payne Campground is about 13 miles from Canton, in Acworth. The campground is near Sixes Mill, Tanglewood Farm, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield and the A.W. Roberts House. It has 60 sites for RV and tent camping, including RV sites with water and electrical hookups. Amenities include a fishing dock, a boat ramp, a swimming area, a children’s playground, a pavilion area with grills and picnic tables, a dump station, a laundry room and restrooms with showers. There are convenience stores within five miles. The campground has a limit of two pets per campsite. It's open from April to September. Most of the time, you can reserve campsites online or by telephone. During some weekends in July, the campground has a first come, first serve policy.

    Victoria Campground

    • Victoria Campground is about 10 miles from Canton, in Woodstock. It's near Canton Theatre, the Blanket Creek bicycle trail, the Booth Western Art Museum and Joseph E. Brown Park. The campground has 74 sites for RV and tent camping, including RV sites with water and electrical hookups. Amenities include a swimming beach, a fishing dock, a boat launch area, a playground, fire pits, an area with picnic tables and grills, a dump station, bathrooms with showers and a laundry room. There are convenience stores within 10 miles. The campground has a restriction of two pets per campsite. It's open from April until October. Except for 2010, when all of the campground's sites are available on a first come, first serve basis, people can usually reserve sites by telephone or online.
