Campgrounds Around Gorham, ME

Originally named “Narrangansett #7” in 1733, Gorham, Maine, was one of the seven townships given to the men who fought in King Philip's War. In 1743 the first sawmill in town was erected, and in 1764 the town’s name was changed to Gorham. The town draws in visitors with its rich history and the sandy beaches nearby. Set up camp at one of several campgrounds within 15 miles of Gorham that allow you to enjoy a little seclusion while staying close to the surf and sand.

    • Wassamki Springs in Scarborough, about 9 miles southeast of Gorham, offers RV sites with full and partial hookups and primitive tent sites. All sites include a picnic table and you can choose from a lakefront, shady or sunny site to set up camp. Restrooms, hot showers and laundry facilities are available on the campground, and Wi-Fi is offered throughout the park. Take part in scheduled weekend activities including free hayrides, bonfires, pot luck dinners and bingo. Dance the night away while listening to live music or sing your heart out at a karaoke session.

    • Pitch a tent or park your RV at a full or partial hookup site at Bayley’s Camping Resort, also in Scarborough. If you’d rather only bring your suitcase, rent a cabin, complete with an electric fireplace, screened porch, stove and refrigerator, or rent a trailer, which includes a brick patio, stove, refrigerator and campfire ring. Take the complimentary beach shuttle to soak up the sun at Pine Point and Old Orchard beaches, or stay at the resort to play arcade games in the game room. Kids can play on three playgrounds that feature climbing equipment, slides and swings, and the whole family can play a round of mini golf. After a day of fun, enjoy a movie and popcorn at movie night, or create a yummy treat at the sundae bar.

    • Enjoy the quiet seclusion of Wild Duck Campground & RV Park in Scarborough. The park welcomes RV and tent campers 21 years and older. Full hookup sites are available for RVs, while electric and non-electric sites are available for tents. All sites include a picnic table. The gated park offers modern restrooms, showers and laundry facilities, and you can stock up on goods at the on-site grocery store. Bring or rent a canoe or kayak to paddle around the pond and feed the ducks that call it home.

    Relax Along the River

    • About 16 miles south of Gorham, Homestead By the River Family Campground in Biddeford has primitive, full and partial hookup sites for tents and RVs. Most sites include a picnic table, and restrooms, coin-operated showers and a laundry facility are available in the campground. Bring your tube and float down the Saco River, or take a dip in the swimming area. Rent a kayak or canoe and fish for trout, smallmouth bass, pickerel, catfish, sunfish and eels. Grab some friends for a game of table tennis, basketball or horseshoes.
