The Waterloo Recreation Area in Chelsea is a 20,000-acre park that has campgrounds, beaches, multiple picnic areas, 11 lakes where visitors can fish, nature trails, 47 miles of hiking trails, horse trails, camping cabins and a discovery center. The largest park in the Lower Peninsula, Waterloo has two modern campgrounds and one that is more primitive. The Waterloo Sugarloaf modern campground is equipped with 164 sites, a boat launch, electric connections, restrooms, showers, a playground and an area for swimming. Some of the sites have 50-amp electric service.The rustic camping site has a boat launch and vault toilets. A group camping site with a playground, swimming area and vault toilets is also available.

The Albert E. Sleeper State Park offers the option of staying at a campground or in cabins. The campground has 226 sites with electric connections, including some with 50 amps. Restrooms with showers are also at the campground. The park also has 13 cabins with electric service, restrooms and showers. The Albert E Sleeper State Park encompasses 723 acres that contain forests, wetlands, a sandy beach and dunes located along Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron. Four hiking trails are in the park, which also has a beach house, a picnic area, a picnic shelter and a playground for kids. Seven state boat ramp sites, one state dock and several public fishing piers are situated near the park.

The Greenvalley RV Campground is located in Hale and within minutes of the Huron National Forest. Fishing opportunities on at least six lakes are available within 15 miles of the campground. The campground has remote sites for both tent and RV camping along with more modern sites. The modern RV sites have water and electric hook-ups of either 20, 30 or 50 amps. Facilities on the property include a dump station, a bath house with showers, sinks and toilets and a playground for children. Campers can also take advantage of Greenvalley's nature trails and a small lake where fishing is allowed. The campground has free Wi-Fi. Seasonal sites are available.
