State Campgrounds in Arizona

Arizona encompasses state parks from Highway 40 near Sedona to the border with Mexico. The weather often reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit; however, various Arizona campgrounds are in high altitudes where the weather is normally cooler. Locals and visitors can swim, fish, bike and hike in designated Arizona campgrounds. While you drive through Arizona, you may pass state campgrounds situated near Superior, Patagonia and Winslow.
  1. Dead Horse Ranch State Park

    • The campground includes cabin rentals and 100 RV campsites to accommodate pull-throughs and trailer rigs. Visitors have access to 30- or 50-amp electricity and potable water. Facilities include showers, restrooms, dump stations, picnic areas, a gift shop and a visitor center. Activities include horseback riding along Lime Kiln Trail, fishing for catfish or crappie in the lagoons and hiking along the estimated seven-mile Dead Horse Trail System. In addition, visitors enjoy canoeing and kayaking in the river and the lower lagoons.

    Buckskin Mountain State Park

    • Situated along the Parker Strip is Buckskin Mountain State Park, about 25 miles from the famed London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. This 1,677-acre park offers three restrooms, showers, dump station, a gift store and visitor center. Grab a bite to eat, pick up ice or fill up with gas at the on-site Buckskin Market. The campground includes 21 cabana sites and 68 tent and RV campsites. Amenities consist of water hookups, 15 sewer connections and 15- or 30-amp electricity. Guests have access to grills and picnic tables. Activities include hiking on Buckskin Tail, fishing in the Colorado River, boating and swimming along the shore.

    Kartchner Caverns State Park

    • The first noted existence of “birdsnest” needle quartz formation sits in the Kartcher Caverns State Park. This campground located in Benson offers back-in sites, pull-through sites, host campsites handicapped sites. Amenities include 20- or 30-amp electricity. Facilities include showers, restrooms and dump stations. Visitors have access to the Discover Center, which includes museum, a gift store, an amphitheater and a theater. The on-site Bat Cave Café serves pizza, sandwiches and snacks from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Try a hike on the Guindani and Foothill Loop Trails. Visitors also enjoy watching the wildlife, such as lizards, hummingbirds, coyotes and cottontails.
